Dietary Needs and Allergies
Providing you with healthy options is something your dining team proudly does every day. We help you select delicious, nutritious, and satisfying meals, snacks, and desserts by highlighting well-balanced menu choices and providing nutritional information and tips to help you make choices that fit your needs.
Raymond Dining Hall, the resident dining hall on campus, does not utilize peanuts or tree nuts, including coconut, in recipes produced within the facility. Individual portion cups of peanut butter are only available at the toasting station. However, some of our products may come from facilities that produce peanuts or tree nuts. If you have a peanut or tree allergy, please reach out to pcdining@providence.edu for information on specific product information.
Simple Servings
Simple Servings is our station that caters to students with food allergies or intolerances. We do not use the following in any of the dishes prepared at this station; peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, fish, wheat, soy, milk, eggs, and gluten-containing ingredients.
The Simple Servings staff is carefully trained to avoid cross-contact with food allergens. All food preparation, storage, equipment, and utensils are separated from general food preparation areas. however, this does NOT completely eliminate but greatly reduces the chance of cross-contact with allergens.
Food Allergies, Intolerances, and Medical Needs
We take pride in sourcing wholesome ingredients, preparing recipes accurately, and providing nutritional analysis and ingredient statements through our online menus and nutrition calculator. We are all passionate about serving students. From the general manager to front-line servers, we work diligently to address students’ specific needs, especially those with food allergies, Celiac disease, or special dietary needs.
A team approach led by you, our educated consumer, is the best preparation for a safe school year free of allergic reactions. We want to meet one-on-one with all of our customers who have individual dining needs to ensure that your dining experience is safe, delicious, and social. If you have a food allergy/particular dietary concern, please send a note to pcdining@providence.edu.
Simple Zone
Simple Zone, located in Raymond Hall Dining is a passcode-protected “pantry” where food items needed by students with Celiac disease or nut allergies are stored and prepared with precautions against cross-contact. This area provides staple items such as gluten-free bread, snacks, desserts, and ready to eat meals. To gain access to the pantry, please review and follow the Dining Accommodations process.
Dining Accommodations
As a partner in wellness, it is essential for us to meet the dining needs of all students, including those with special dietary requirements.
We will work with students to provide reasonable accommodations, including alternate meals and menu choices for students who have seen a health care provider and have been formally diagnosed with a condition. Examples of conditions may include food allergies, food intolerances, physician-prescribed special diets, and celiac disease. Students requesting accommodations are required to meet with our dining staff to discuss needs and how we can assist with their accommodations. Please see Providence College’s Disability Accommodations for details on requesting accommodations.
FARE
As a member of FARE (Food Allergy Research and Education), we work to promote allergy awareness and improve the quality of life for students with food allergies. More information can be found on the FARE website at Preparing for College.
