Is Candy Really All That Bad?

Short answer: NO!

Craving a candy bar? Enjoy it! Don’t feel guilty over eating something you love. Once you enjoy the food you can move on. Don’t overcompensate by restricting your meals the rest of the day or day after. Ditch the diet mentality that is telling you not to enjoy your favorite candies.

Some principals of Intuitive Eating that can help

  1. Make Peace with Food
    • Give yourself permission to eat what you want! The more we tell ourselves “I can’t eat that” the more your brain wants it, which can lead to binging and uncontrollable craving
  2. Challenge the Food Police
    • Say NO to the thoughts that tell you that you are being “good” by avoiding food or “bad” by eating certain foods.
  3. Discover your Satisfaction
    • When you eat foods that you really want, in an environment that is inviting, the feeling
  4. Honor your Health
    • Make your food choices on based health AND taste buds while making you feel good. Remember, you don’t have to be perfect to be healthy. Healthy is an all-encompassing term that includes (but is not limited to) both physical AND mental health.

Remember, Halloween is just one day a year, so It won’t have a major impact on your health if you eat a few extra candies. Allow yourself to enjoy some treats and don’t deprive yourself of food the following day! Your body needs nutrition regardless of how you ate the day before.
